Character Project: Due September 30, 2013
Option 1: Create a word collage on www.tagxedo.com. Each word in your word collage must be a word that describes your character of choice in some way. Tagxedo allows you to enter phrases as well. You must have at least 20 different words or phrases that describe your character. Stanley would be an obvious choice and an easy character to analyze, but extra credit will be awarded if you can come up with 20 words or phrases for a minor character from the story.

Option 2: Make a scrap book. Think about all the kinds of mementos you would put in a scrap book if you had one. Then create a scrap book for your character, cutting out pictures from magazines or drawing the mementos he or she would have in a scrap book. Think about the setting and the character's family. Consider the character's hobbies or talents that are discussed in the book. Your scrap book must have at least 2 pages, with at least 3 pictures or mementos on each page. Get creative!

Option 3: PARTNER PROJECT: With a partner, create a dialogue based off of the popular game, "Twenty Questions". Imagine that one of you is a talk show host, and the other is Stanley from the book. The talk show host must ask at least 20 questions of Stanley that evoke thoughtful responses. Create the entire dialogue between the two. This means that you will write the questions AND the answers that you think Stanley would give, as if the two were having a real conversation. Questions and answers must be relevant to the book and not silly or off-topic. Extra credit will be given if you choose to act out this dialogue in front of the class.
|
Option 4: PARTNER PROJECT: With your partner, write a script for a "breaking report" at a news station as though you are co-anchors. This breaking report should begin with the problem, such as "This just in, Stanley Yelnats sentenced to do time at Camp Green Lake for stealing a pair of sneakers from a raffle!" Talk about the sequence of events that occurred and any consequences. Discuss how the news station plans to follow up or provide more information on the condition of the character. This must be at least 3 paragraphs long. That means that you will be writing at least 15 sentences. Get creative, but be sure to keep it relevant to the story!
